Rex Ryan Insists Shonn Greene Is His Starting Running Back

Jets head coach Rex Ryan gave running back Shonn Greene his vote of confidence by insisting he will remain the teams starting running back, rather than Bilal Powell, per Matt Ehalt of ESPNNewYork.com

“When you look at it, (Powell) had more snaps because quite honestly he’s our third-down back, and when you get behind like we were behind, you’re obviously throwing the ball much more,” Ryan said, via Ehalt. “You almost put that third-down offense out there.”

During the Jets 34-0 loss to the 49ers, Bilal played twice as many snaps than Greene with 32. Greene hasn’t been too efficient this season, averaging 2.8 yards per carry to Bilal’s 3.8. It won’t get any easier for Greene and the Jets ground game as they host the Texans and their 11th ranked run defense on Monday night
