Jets Reportedly Starting QB Michael Vick In Week 13

Update:

Kimberly Martin reports that the Jets will in fact be starting QB Michael Vick in Week 13’s game against the Miami Dolphins.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that assuming Rex Ryan is still the head coach and QB Michael Vick‘s calf injury isn’t any thing major, the Jets are expected to go with Vick for Monday’s game against the Dolphins.

  • Mehta adds that Ryan had to discuss and clear his decision to make a change at quarterback few weeks ago with GM John Idzik and owner Woody Johnson.
  • According to Mehta, it is possible that he will have to do the same thing this week as well.

Vick wound up being replaced by Geno Smith after he threw an interception to Bills S Duke Williams. However, Vick also sustained an injury before that play took place, so that likely factored into the interception to some degree.

Vick finished Monday’s game completing just 7-of-19 passes for just 76 yards and an interception.

It’s hard to get optimistic about either of the Jets’ options at quarterback, especially after seeing the kind of effort they put together last night.

Vick, 34, is in the final year of his contract and will be an unrestricted free agent next season, but it’s hard to say that his play has been good enough for him to secure another opportunity outside of a possible backup position.

We’ll have updates posted as the news is available.
