RGIII Confusion Due To “Terrible Internal & External Communication” By Redskins

Jeff Darlington, citing “well-informed sources” close to the Redskins and QB Robert Griffin III, reports that the situation involving RGIII appears to stem from “terrible internal and external communication” on the part of the team.

A source close to RGIII tells Darlington he did not meet with an NFL independent neurologist until Thursday, which directly contradicts a statement made by HC Jay Gruden on Friday.

The neurological exams RGIII underwent since last weekend were all performed by doctors unassociated with NFL’s concussion protocol for in-game clearance, according to Darlington.

RGIII reportedly was permitted to practice without contact after passing baseline tests, as the team was led to believe the independent neurologist assigned by league would clear Griffin. However, RGIII was never confused, and explains why he’s so confused about the situation.

Darlington mentions that Griffin does not believe he suffered concussion, but those close to the quarterback have advised him it really doesn’t matter what he or team thinks.

This is not a conspiracy,” said a source close to Griffin, per Darlington.

As of now, Griffin’s camp reportedly doesn’t believe Washington is using the concussion to bench in favor of Kirk Cousins.

Reports from earlier in the day mentioned that Cousins will start Saturday’s third preseason game and could end up being the team’s Week 1 starter, even though RGIII is expected to undergo further testing in a one or two.

We’ll have more regarding RGIII and the Redskins quarterback position as the news is available.
