Richard Seymour An Option For The Falcons?

Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com suggests that the Falcons could consider the idea of adding someone like free agent DL Richard Seymour to their roster in the coming weeks.

As of now, Atlanta has $2.18 million in cap space to work with, but they still need to sign their recent draft picks. The Falcons designated RT Tyson Clabo as a June 1 release, which means that his cap figure for the 2013 season will be reduced to $1.55 million, with another $3.1 million counting against their 2014 salary cap.

According to Yasinskas, this could allow them pursue upgrades at either defensive tackle or possibly even at linebacker. The Falcons could create even more cap space if they were to reach an agreement with QB Matt Ryan on a long-term extension.

Seymour, 33, has drawn almost no interest on the open market. Last year, Pro Football Focus has him listed as the No. 14 best defensive tackle in the league, although he played only 361 snaps for the Raiders defense. Either way, he could be a great value at this point and should be able to offer the Falcons some additional depth up the middle.

We have Seymour listed as the No. 11 player in our Best Available Free Agents list.
