Richard Sherman Would Like To Play 4 Or 5 More Years, Open To Playing Safety

49ers veteran CB Richard Sherman told reporters on Thursday that he would like to play another four or five years and is open to making the transition to safety down the road.

“I think 35 is probably my cutoff,” Sherman said, via ESPN.com. “They’d have a hard time getting me out of the bed at 35 to go play, so I think I’ve got about four or five more [seasons] in me. At some point, everybody makes the transition to safety and if you’re smart enough to play that game and I’ll probably do that in a couple of years or whenever the team needs.

Sherman, 30, is a former fifth-round pick of the Seahawks back in 2011. He was entering the final of his five-year, $58.789 million contract that includes $40 million guaranteed and set to make a base salary of $11 million for the 2018 season when the Seahawks released him this offseason.

The 49ers later signed him to a three-year, $39.15 million contract.

In 2018, Sherman has appeared in 10 games for the 49ers and recorded 24 tackles, one sack, a fumble recovery and four pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 41 cornerback out of 113 qualifying players.
