Robert Griffin III “Guaranteed” To Be Back In Week 11

Redskins HC Jay Gruden mentioned during an interview with SiriusXM Radio Wednesday that QB Robert Griffin III is “guaranteed” to be back for the team’s Week 11 match up against the Buccaneers.

“I would think — I would guarantee Tampa, most likely, unless something happens between now and then,” Gruden said, via the Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post. “You’ve got a good bye week, you’ve got a couple weeks to make sure it’s ready. Obviously Robert is a quick healer. He works extremely hard in the training room. So the process could be sped up a little bit depending on how he feels.”

There was some talk that RGIII could still play against the Cowboys this weekend, but Dianna Marie Russini reported Tuesday that there was no chance of Griffin playing on Monday. This, of course, means that Colt McCoy is expected to start against Dallas.

Gruden mentions that even if Griffin were to be healthy, it’s been a while since he last took a meaningful rep.

You know, it’s a very difficult position to play, and just because he’s healthy, he hasn’t taken a meaningful rep in about six weeks,” Gruden went on. “And Rich knows first hand that the quarterback position is very delicate. You need your reps to play, and play successfully.  You can’t just throw a guy out there without the reps, and the practice time, and the continuity with the receivers and the backs and the tight ends. So it’ll be a little bit of a process — probably a little bit more than people think — but we’ll play it by ear and see how he’s doing on a daily basis.

McCoy took over for Kirk Cousins at halftime during Week 7’s game against the Titans and wound up completing 11-of-12 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown. Washington was able to come away with a win, so it will be interesting to see if he’s able to continue his success in Week 8.

We’ll have more updates regarding when RGIII could be back in the lineup as the news is available.
