Russell Wilson “Ready To Go” Whether He’s Paid $25M Or $1.5M

Seahawks QB Russell Wilson was, once again, asked about his contract situation during an interview ESPN’s Marty Smith.

Wilson deflected the question for the most part, but offered an interesting comment about the range of salary for his next contract.

I think ultimately it comes down to the play,” Wilson said, via Pro Football Talk. “Just let my play speak for itself, and let the rest take care of itself. Continue to love the game for what it is, continue to fight, continue to play.  No matter how much I’m getting paid, whether it’s $25 million or $1.5 million. I’ll be ready to go.”

Wilson could be just tossing out random figures for the purpose of illustrating his point. However, recent reports have said that he’s looking to become the highest paid player in the NFL, and $25 million would best the Aaron Rodgers‘ annual salary by close to $3 million.

The thinking from Wilson’s camp is that contracts for quarterbacks will likely explode in the coming years, and even if Wilson secures a record-setting deal, it would likely be passed up soon enough by the likes of Andrew Luck, Eli Manning and Rodgers.

Wilson, 26, still has one year remaining on his four-year, $2.198 million rookie contract, which includes a base salary of $798,651 for the 2015 season.

In 2014, Wilson threw for 3,475 yards while completing 63.1 percent of his passes for 20 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also ran for 849 yards and scored six rushing touchdowns over the course of 16 games.
