Russell Wilson Won’t Participate In Rangers’ Spring Training

Update:

Russell Wilson’s agent, Mark Rodgers, clarified that his client has no plans to “actively participate” in Rangers spring training, per Jon Morosi.

Based on Morosi’s tweets from yesterday, it was clear that Wilson only intended on making an appearance wasn’t going to be participating in any drills, but it appears as though some misinterpreted the situation.

Seahawks QB Russell Wilson already has a Super Bowl championship under his belt after just two years in the NFL, and although his football career is clearly his main focus, it appears as though Wilson could take some time to join his other professional sports team in the coming weeks.

Wilson’s baseball agent, Mark Rodgers, mentioned that his client still plans to “appear” at the Rangers spring training, per Jon Morosi of FOX Sports.

  • Rodgers added that Wilson is interested in “maintaining a relationship with Rangers and ties to MLB.”

The Rangers surprisingly took Russell Wilson in the Rule 5 draft back in December and have said that they would appreciate just having him around for spring training, even if football remains his focus.

Wilson previously left the North Carolina State and signed with the Rockies as a second-baseman, but later returned to college football and finished out his career at the University of Wisconsin.

The Seahawks are getting an absolute steal with Wilson and his third-round contract. Wilson is currently on the books for $662,434 in 2014 and will not be able to negotiate a long-term extension until 2015. It’s safe to say that Wilson is in line for a huge extension.
