Ryan Lilja’s Potential Comeback Put “On Hold”

The Kansas City Star’s Adam Teicher is reporting former Chiefs offensive lineman, Ryan Lilja, is putting his possible reunion tour “on hold” due to offseason surgeries he endured, as well as Kansas City’s content with the “capable bodies along their line.”

Lilja, who retired after the 2012 season, was contacted more than a month ago by the Chiefs and new head coach Andy Reid about coming back to help bolster an offensive line that saw changes during the offseason. That interest seems to have decreased.

Because the franchise retained tackle Branden Albert and drafted tackle Eric Fisher, the offensive line problems were solidified from the outside in. Lilja, a guard, drew interest from Reid as a body who could help compete to complete the line.

The 31-year-old NFL veteran has yet to declare his return official, but offseason surgery and a lack of team interest certainly doesn’t help his case should he elect to come back to the league.
