Ryan Mallett Could Miss “Several Games” With Pectoral Injury

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports that Texans QB Ryan Mallett suffered a right pectoral muscle injury and could miss “several weeks.

  • McClain adds that Mallett will undergo an MRI Monday to determine the severity of the injury.

As of now, the Texans are expected to start Ryan Fitzpatrick for Week 12’s game against the Tennessee Titans.

Mallett completed 21-of-45 throws for 189 yards and an interception during Sunday’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Mallett, 26, came over from New England in a trade that sent a conditional seventh-round pick to the Patriots in return for him. He is in the final year of his four-year, $2,947,828 rookie and will make a base salary of $776,976 for the 2014 season before testing the open market next year.

There’s no question that Mallett has a lot riding on his opportunity this season, so missing any amount of time would be a major disappointment for him.

We’ll have more updates as the news is available.
