Adrian Wilson May Not Be Back With Patriots Next Season

During an interview with Fox Sports 910 AM Phoenix, Patriots S Adrian Wilson mentioned that he’s not sure whether or not he’ll be back in New England next season.

“Being out for a whole year and sitting back and watching is way tougher than what I imagined,” Wilson said, via ESPN.com. “Now I’m really just focusing on myself, not so much the situation, just trying to get myself healthy and just ready to play, whether it’s New England or whatever … I really don’t know what’s going to happen. So I’m just trying to focus in on myself right now.”

Wilson, 34, signed a three-year deal worth $5 million that included a $1 million signing bonus with the Patriots last year. However, the former Cardinal spent the entire season on injured reserve following an Achilles injury.

The hard hitting safety has expressed his desire to continue his career in 2014, but there is at least some question as to whether or not he’ll be back with the Patriots. The NFL has shown a reluctance to keep aging veterans at key defensive positions like safety in recent years, so at $1.5 million next year, it seems likely that New England will consider parting ways with Wilson and use the savings to address some of their free agents.
