Saints Announce That They Will Not Re-Sign ILB Jonathan Vilma

The New Orleans Saints announced that they have released DE Will Smith, CB Jabari Greer and S Roman Harper on Wednesday.

In the same announcement, the Saints mentioned that they will not be re-signing impending free agent ILB Jonathan Vilma this offseason.

This move probably doesn’t come as much of a surprise as there has been speculation for months now that Vilma would likely be playing elsewhere next season.

Vilma, 31, was placed on season-ending injured reserve back in November, despite the fact that they activated him from short-term IR.

He played six seasons for New Orleans and helped them win their first and only Super Bowl title back in 2009.

It’s hard to say if there will be a lot of interest in him this offseason seeing as the free agent market hasn’t worked out favorably for veteran linebackers in recent years.
