Saints CB Champ Bailey Could Be The Roster Bubble?

Larry Holder of the New Orleans Times-Picayune writes that veteran CB Champ Bailey will need to get back to the practice field sooner than later and prove that he’s worthy of being the team’s starting cornerback or he could be on the chopping block.

Details regarding the aliment that has kept Bailey away from practice for the past few weeks have been scarce and the team hasn’t exactly been forthcoming about his injury. However, it appears as though Bailey is dealing with some sort of leg injury.

Greg Bedard of MMQB.com mentioned recently that he would not be shocked if the Saints cut ties with Bailey, so this isn’t the first time this idea has surfaced.

Bailey is only guaranteed $500,000 on his contract, so the Saints would not take a huge hit should they cut him.

Bailey is 36, and the twelve-time Pro Bowler has played a lot of football in his 16 seasons.  The Saints had to be well aware of his declining athleticism when they signed him.  In that respect, Bailey could be seen as a good fit as a mentor to the young defensive backs in New Orleans.
