Saints CB Delvin Breaux Has Fractured Fibula, Expected To Be Out 4-6 Weeks

According to Mike Triplett of ESPN, the Saints haveĀ fired team orthopedists, Deryk Jones and Misty Suri, after it was discovered that CB Delvin Breaux has a fractured fibula and will require surgery expected to sideline him for 4-6 weeks.

Triplett adds thatĀ Breaux was originally diagnosed with a contusion and the team began to be frustrated that he wasn’t recovering more quickly. However, it was later revealed that Breaux had been missed diagnosis.

This comes less than a week after a report mentioned that the Saints were interested in trading Breaux, given that he couldn’t stay healthy. Although, Triplett says it now appears to beĀ unlikely at this point that the Saints will be as eager to trade or release Breaux.

Breaux, 27, wound up signing on with the Saints as an undrafted free agent back in May of 2015. He’s currently in the third year of his three-year, $1.587 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $615,000 for the 2017 season before becoming a restricted free agent in 2018.

According toĀ OverTheCap.com,Ā trading Breaux would free up $615,000 of available cap space while creating $4,000 in dead money.

In 2016, Breaux appeared in six games and recorded 21 tackles, no interceptions and a pass defense for the Saints.
