Saints Could Consider Signing Veteran S Roman Harper?

Alex Marvez of FOX Sports mentions that it would not be surprising to see the Saints consider signing veteran S Roman Harper to a contract.

  • Marvez points out that Harper could give the Saints some veteran experience in their secondary who is also familiar with the team.

This is the first we’ve heard about Harper since free agency opened several months ago.

The Saints have two notable young safeties in Kenny Vaccaro and second-round pick Vonn Bell to go along with veteran Jairus Byrd. However, Harper would give them some depth and leadership at the position as they prepare for training camp.

Harper, 33, is a former second-round pick of the Saints back in 2006. He spent eight years in New Orleans before signing on with the Panthers back in 2014. However, his contract voided in February, making him a free agent.

In 2015, Harper appeared in all 16 games for the Panthers and recorded 73 tackles, two fumble recoveries and five pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 67 safety out of 88 qualifying players.
