Saints Cut QB Garrett Grayson & RB Travaris Cadet

Nick Underhill is reporting that the Saints have cut QB Garrett Grayson and RB Travaris Cadet on Saturday as they work to get down to 53 players.

Grayson, 25, is a former third-round pick of the Saints back in 2015. He managed to make the 53-man roster during his rookie season but wound up being among the team’s final roster cuts coming out of the preseason.

The Saints later signed him to their practice squad at the start of the regular season. New Orleans signed him to a futures deal back in January.

In 2015, Grayson was active for one game for the Saints.

Cadet, 28, originally signed on with the Saints as an undrafted free agent out of Appalachian State back in 2012. He spent three years in New Orleans before he was allowed to test the open market in 2015.

The Patriots elected to sign Cadet to a two-year contract worth $1.75 million. Unfortunately, they cut him loose during the season. The 49ers later signed him to a contract after they lost Carlos Hyde for the season, but was waived towards the end of the year and later claimed off of waivers by the Saints.

New Orleans brought him back on a one-year deal for the 2016 season and re-signed him to another one-year contract this past March.

The team was reportedly exploring their trade options for Cadet back in June, so they evidently were not able to find a trade partner.

In 2016, Cadet appeared in 15 games for the Saints and rushed for 19 yards on four carries (4.8 YPC) to go along with 40 receptions for 281 yards receiving and four touchdowns. He also contributed 144 kick return yards.
