Saints Cut TE Jake Stoneburner & DE Royce LaFrance

Herbie Teope reports that the Saints have placed DE/OLB Royce LaFrance on waivers and released TE Jake Stoneburner on Monday.

Stoneburner, 27, wound up signing on with the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Ohio State back in 2013. He lasted just over a year in Green Bay before he was waived at the start of the 2014 season.

The Dolphins later signed him to their practice squad and brought him back on a future/reserve contract last year. Stoneburner once again returned to the team in 2016, this time on an exclusive rights deal.

However, the Dolphins cut him loose in July and had a brief stint with the Rams. Stoneburner spent the 2016 season on the Saints’ practice squad and returned to the team on a futures deal in January.

In 2015, Stoneburner appeared in 11 games for the Dolphins, catching five passes for 47 yards receiving and two touchdowns.

LaFrance was invited to the Saints’ rookie minicamp last year but it wasn’t until October that he was signed to the Saints’ practice squad. Unfortunately, New Orleans elected to cut him loose a few weeks later.

LaFrance signed a futures deal with the Saints this past January.

During his college career at Tulane, LaFrance recorded 121 tackles, 35.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, two recoveries and nine pass defenses over the course of four seasons.
