Saints Face Decisions: Meachem and Porter Could Be On The Way Out

Pat Yasinskas takes a look at the return prospects of a few Saints on expiring contracts over at ESPN.com.

The Saints have just around $5M of cap space cleared currently, and though they will grow that number with releases and/or salary reconstruction, they have a wealth of players who require new contracts.  G Carl Nicks is a key piece of their line, and one who expects to be the top paid guard in the league.  WR Marques Colston is also set to earn big dollars, and it’s thought that these will be the first players that the Saints look to lock up.

This means that CB Terry Porter and WR Robert Meachem will not only likely make it to the market, but are also probably on their way out of town.  Meachem may have a better shot at returning, as if Nicks is resigned, it may price out Colston.  Either way, both Meachem and Porter could be great value signings, as they fall outside of a strong group of big-name players at their respective positions who will command top dollar.

Nicks, Colston, and Meachem all are in our recently posted top-50 free agents list, while Porter falls just off the list.  Keep tabs there as players are signed to see when Porter peaks into the list.
