Saints Free Up Some Cap Room By Restructuring DE Will Smith’s contract

ESPN.com‘s Pat Yasinskas reports that the New Orleans Saints have restructured DE Will Smith‘s contract which will save the team $4.78 million against the 2012 salary cap.

There was some talk that Smith could be on the chopping block but he now gets to stay on with the team without losing any money.

The Saints have adjusted his $6.175 million signing bonus into a deal that helps in the interim but will consequently increase his cap numbers in 2013 and 2014 quite considerably. This very well could be his last season with the Saints unless he’s willing to renegotiate his deal again a year from now.
