Saints Have Had No Contact With Marques Colston

Dan Pompei of the National Football Post reports that the New Orleans Saints haven’t reached out to WR Marques Colston regarding a new contract.

This isn’t all that surprising considering that Drew Brees remains the team’s top priority at this point. Once he’s under contract, the Saints will have a better idea of what their offseason plan will be.

Pompei mentions that they may have to choose between Colston and Carl Nicks because they could be forced to use their franchise tag on Brees.

Nicks has said that he would like to stay in New Orleans and could be willing to give them a discount but the market would be very competitive for him if he’s available. You could say the same about Colston but the difference here is that the Saints would be risking losing two of their receivers and previous reports have said that he’s unwilling to offer the same kind of discount to stay. It’s really a tough situation for the Saints as Brees is worth one of the largest contracts in the league but losing quality players in the process of keeping him isn’t exactly ideal.

  1. This is sad that they can not seem to pay there top players. Once again like the saints of old let there top players go. Looks like the aints are trying to make a comeback

  2. It’s unfortunate they couldn’t get something done with Brees. He should have been inked last season and the could have avoided all this uncertainty. Hopefully the Jaguars make a run at Marques.
