Saints Likely To Release WR Marques Colston Soon

Mike Triplett of ESPN, citing a league source, reports that the Saints are likely to release veteran WR Marques Colston in the coming days.

This shouldn’t come as a complete surprise, considering that the Saints are once again in a tough cap situation. New Orleans has already released veteran G Jahri Evans and are expected to make more moves including cutting CB Brandon Browner.

Colston, 32, is in the final year of his five-year, $36.3 million contract that included $17.7 million guaranteed. He stands to make a base salary of $3.2 million for the 2016 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing will free up $3.2 million in available cap space while creating $2.7 million in dead money.

In 2015, Colston appeared in 13 games and caught 45 passes for 520 yards receiving and four touchdowns.

We’ll have more regarding Colston and the Saints as the news is available.
