Saints Making “Hard Push” To Sign WR Jordy Nelson, Seahawks & Raiders In The Mix

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, the Raiders now have serious competition from the Saints, who are making a “hard push” to sign WR Jordy Nelson. Rapoport adds that the Seahawks are still in the mix as well, but Nelson remains in Oakland at this time.

  • Earlier in the day, Adam Schefter reported that the Raiders are trying to finalize a deal today with Nelson. In fact, one source told Schefter: “This is going to get done.

This could be Nelson trying to gain some leverage in his talks with the Raiders, seeing as he’s still in Oakland and hasn’t scheduled visits with any of the other teams.

It’s worth mentioning that signing him to a contract won’t impact a team’s 2019 compensatory picks, given that he was released this offseason.

Nelson, 32, is a former second-round pick of the Packers back in 2008. He was entering the final year of his five-year, $43 million contract and set to make a base salary of $9.25 million for the 2018 season when the Packers released him in a move that freed up $10,218,750 of available cap space.

In 2017, Nelson appeared in 15 games for the Packers and caught 53 passes for 482 yards receiving and six touchdowns.

We have him featured in our Top 50 Available 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
