Saints Have No Plans To Trade Or Cut Adrian Peterson Following Sideline Incident

Jason La Canfora, citing sources with knowledge of the situation, reports that Saints HC Sean Payton and veteran RB Adrian Peterson did not exchange words during Monday’s game against the Vikings and there is no disagreement or rift between them.

Sources tell La Canfora that Payton and Peterson later discussed the sideline incident on the plane home. La Canfora adds that both Peterson and Payton are on the same page and “squashed” the matter.

According to La Canfora, the Saints have no plans to either trade or release Peterson and are actually hoping to get him more work in their offense moving forward.

Earlier in the week, Peterson said he “didn’t sign up for nine snaps.”

“I didn’t sign up for nine snaps, though, but unfortunately that’s the way the game played out,” Peterson said, via Joel A. Erickson of the Advocate. “In my mind, personally, I knew it was gonna take some adjusting. You know, me and Mark played in the last preseason game, AK didn’t even play that game. So with all three of us being out there, I knew it would take a game or so to kind of get adjusted.”

As for the sideline incident, Peterson explained that he was trying to get Payton’s attention and the situation has been “overdramatized.”

“It was definitely overdramatized,” Peterson said. “Of course, with the heat of the game, me being back in Minnesota and things like that, just catching that look – that intense look on my face, like I had – I actually got some laughs out of some of the memes that were made.

Peterson, 32, is a former first-round pick of the Vikings back in 2007. After 10 seasons in Minnesota, Peterson signed a two-year, $7 million contract with the Saints and stands to make base salaries of $1 million and $1.05 million over the next two years.

in 2017, Peterson has appeared in one game and rushed for 18 yards on six carries and no touchdowns.
