Saints Officially Sign C Jonathan Goodwin & DT Brandon Deaderick

The New Orleans Saints announced the signings of veteran C Jonathan Goodwin and DT Brandon Deaderick on Tuesday.

  • The Saints waived G Mike Golic Jr. and ILB Spencer Hadley to make room for the two additions.

Mike Triplett of ESPN.com first reported that the Saints had agreed to terms with Goodwin on Monday.

Goodwin, 35, recently worked out for New Orleans and reports indicated that a deal was likely to get done this week.

Last year, Goodwin was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 15 center in the league, which was largely due to his above-average run-blocking ability.

Deaderick, 26, recently worked out for the Chiefs last week, but apparently had greater interest from the Saints. He was a seventh-round pick of the Patriots back in 2010. Deaderick spent three seasons with New England before being claimed off waivers by the Jaguars in May of last year.

In 2013, he appeared in 13 games for Jacksonville and totaled nine tackles, a half sack, a forced fumble and a recovery.
