Saints Pick Up S Kenny Vaccaro’s Fifth-Year Option

Albert Breer of NFL Media reports that the Saints have exercised S Kenny Vaccaro‘s fifth-year option on Tuesday.

Vaccaro becomes the first player in the 2013 draft class to officially have his fifth-year option picked up.

The fifth-year option will run them over $5.6 million in 2017, but is guaranteed only for injury and won’t prevent them from working on a long-term extension over the next year.

Vaccaro, 25, was taken with the No. 15 overall pick during the 2013 draft. He was in the final year of his four-year, $9.425 million rookie contract and stands to make a base salary of$1,690,188 for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Vaccaro appeared in all 16 games for the Saints and recorded 104 tackles, three sacks, no interceptions, a forced fumble, a recovery and five pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 27 safety out of 89 qualifying players.
