Saints Reach Out To RB Pierre Thomas Regarding His Future With The Team

Lamont Smith, the agent for Saints’ RB Pierre Thomas, tells The New Orleans Times-Picayune that the team has reached out to his client regarding his future with the team.

Smith would say what the Saints were thinking in regards to Thomas and his status with the team.

Thomas, 29, is entering the final year of his four-year, $11.2 million contract that included $4.2 million guaranteed. His name has come up as a potential cap casualty in recent months as the Saints are trying to get in a better cap situation before the start of free agency in a few weeks.

Releasing Thomas would free up $2.9 million in cap space, according to OverTheCap.com.

Last year, Thomas totaled 549 yard rushing and another 513 yards receiving and five total touchdowns over the course of 16 games. Pro Football Focus has Thomas rated as the No. 13 running back in the league last season.
