Report: Jets Re-Signing OT Jason Smith

Update:

Brian Costello reports that sources have informed him that the Jets are in fact bringing back OT Jason Smith.

Smith, 27, managed to play in all 16 games for the Jets last season, but never received a start. According to Pro Football Focus, Smith played 265 snaps for the Jets and actually graded out as a very serviceable offensive lineman, who was above-average in both run and pass-blocking.

The New Orleans Saints have announced the release of former No. 2 overall pick OT Jason Smith.

Smith, 27, was brought in to compete for one of the team’s starting tackle positions, but he wasn’t having the strongest training camp overall. Last year, he was traded to the Jets in return for another underwhelming offensive tackle in Wayne Hunter.

At this point in time, it appears as though Smith could be out of options. We’ll have to see if some team is willing to bring him in for a workout at some point in the near future.

Charles Brown will be the Saints starting left tackle this year with Zach Strief most likely handling the right tackle position.
