Saints Release Veteran G Jahri Evans

Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Saints have released veteran G Jahri Evans on Monday.

The Saints are once again in a position where they will need to make a number of roster moves before the start of free agency, due to their cap situation.

Evans, 32, was entering the second year of his three-year, $18 million contract that included $9.5 million guaranteed. He was set to make base salaries of $3.8 million (2016) and $4.9 million over the remainder of the contract.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing will Evans free up $1.1 million in available cap space while creating $7.1 million in dead money.

In 2015, Evans appeared in 11 games for the Saints. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 38 guard out of 82 qualifying players.
