Saints Release Veteran WR Hakeem Nicks, Sign LS Chris Highland

Saints HC Sean Payton, told reporters on Monday that they’ve made the decision to release veteran WR Hakeem Nicks and sign LS Chris Highland to a contract.

Nicks was reportedly unimpressive during the early part of Saints’ training camp, which explains why his time with the team was so brief.

Nicks, 28, is a former first-round pick of the Giants back in 2009. He spent five years in New York before he departed in 2014 and signed a one-year deal with the Colts.

After another limited free agent market, Nicks was forced to sign a one-year deal with the Titans, but he was unfortunately among their final roster cuts. The Giants later brought him back in November after they sustained some injuries at the position and he finish out the year in New York.

The Saints signed Nicks to a one-year contract with no guaranteed money back a few weeks ago.

In 2015, Nicks appeared in six games for the Giants and totaled seven receptions for 54 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
