Saints Reportedly Preparing For Life After Drew Brees, Could Draft QB

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the New Orleans Saints are preparing for life after Drew Brees and could target a quarterback high in next year’s NFL Draft.

  • According to Rapoport, there are concern about Brees’ age and the fact that his arm strength appears to have waned this year.
  • Rapoport mentions that the Brees’ lack of size has probably contributed to some of his accuracy issues.

Brees, 35, is in the third year of his five-year, $100 million contract that included $40 million guaranteed. He has base salaries of $18.75 million and $19.75 million coming his way over the next two years, which are extremely high and could impact their ability to address other roster needs.

That’s not to say that New Orleans is likely to release the greatest player in their franchises history, but it wouldn’t hurt for them to get a long-term plan in place if he continues to show some signs of regression.

This season, Brees has thrown for 3,491 yards while completing 70.3 percent of his passes to go along with 22 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
