Saints Restructure RB Mark Ingram’s Contract, Pick Up $1.49M In Cap Room

Field Yates of ESPN first reported that the Saints had restructured RB Mark Ingram‘s contract for some additional cap relief.

According to Yates, the Saints converted $2.235 million of Ingram’s $3 million base salary for the 2016 season into a signing bonus, which in turn created another $1.49 million in cap space.

This comes just a day after they reworked the contracts of DE Cameron Jordan and P Thomas Morestead for cap purposes.

Ingram, 26, is in the second year of his four-year, $16 million contract that includes $7.6 million guaranteed. He was set to a make base salary of $3 million for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Ingram appeared in 12 games and ran for 769 yards on 166 carries (4.6 YPC) to go along with 50 receptions for 405 yards receiving and six total touchdowns.
