Saints & RT Zach Strief Have “Mutual Interest” In A New Contract

The agent for Saints RT Zach Strief, Ralph Cindrich, tells Mike Tripplet of ESPN.com that there is “mutual interest” a between the two sides regarding a new contract.

“There is a mutual interest to get something done on both sides, and we had a good meeting and discussions,” Cindrich said.

Tripplet believes the Saints would like to keep Strief as their starting right tackle moving forward, but their current cap situation will obviously make this much more difficult.

Depending on Strief’s asking price, there is a chance that the two sides could get something done, but there is almost no way that New Orleans can compete with teams on the open market.

Strief, 30, figures to be one of the best right tackles available in the free agent market. However, NFL teams have been reluctant to pay right tackles in recent years, which is evident from the fact that
Sebastian Vollmer was only able to secure a four-year deal worth $16.750 million from the Patriots last season.

Strief rates as the No. 7 offensive tackle in the league, according to Pro Football Focus.

We have Strief listed as the No. 49 player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
