Saints RT Zach Strief Won’t Return From Injured Reserve

Mike Triplett of ESPN reports that Saints RT Zach Strief will not return from injured reserve this season.

There was some initial hope that Strief could return at a later point, but his knee injury ultimately required surgery to repair his ACL and MCL, which means there’s no chance of him being back this season.

Triplett adds that Strief’s future in the NFL is in doubt, considering that he’ll be coming off of knee surgery and is currently 34 years old.

If the Saints move on from Strief next year, first-round pick Ryan Ramczyk would likely take over as their starting right tackle.

Strief, 34, is a former seventh-round pick of the Saints back in 2006. He has played all 11 years of his NFL career in New Orleans and was in the fourth year of his five-year, $20.5 million contract that included $8.5 million guaranteed and set to make a base salary of $1 million for the 2017 season.

In 2017, Strief was limited to appearing in just two games for the Saints.
