Adrian Peterson Unlikely To Sign Before Draft

Update:

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media is reporting that free agent RB Adrian PetersonĀ is not expected to sign with a team before the draft, barring a dramatic shift.

According to Rapoport, the interested teams in Peterson still plan to monitor the situation, but it appears as though he won’t sign until May at the earliest.

According to Ed Werder of ESPN, is possible that the Saints look to sign free agent RB Adrian Peterson before the draft if the money is right.

Werder mentions that Peterson impressed the Patriots during his visit to New England and appeared both fast and explosive during his workout.

Peterson wound up leavingĀ his visit with the Saints without a contract, but the meeting reportedly went well and the two sides plan to remain in contact.

Many have assumed that Peterson could wait until after the draft to find his next team, considering that this year’s draft is very deep at running back. However, it appears as though there’s at least a chance something could get done in the next few weeks.

Peterson, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Vikings back in 2007. He was entering the final year of his three-year, $44 million contract that included $20 million guaranteed and was set to make a base salary of $11.75 million to go along with a $6 million roster bonus due on March 11.

Peterson is testing the open market for the first time in his career.

In 2016, Peterson hasĀ rushed for 72 yards on 37 carries (1.9 YPC) to go along with three receptions for eight yards receiving and no touchdowns over the course of three games.
