Saints Sign OT Tyrus Thompson

The Saints have signed OT Tyrus Thompson, according to his agent Kent Sarnoff.

The Lions elected to waive Thompson last week to make room for OL Darius Johnson.

New Orleans brought in Thompson and several other players for a tryouts this weekend, but it appears as though he really stood out to the Saints.

Thompson, 24, was a sixth-round pick by the Vikings in 2015, but was unfortunately waived from the team with an injury designation and later reverted to the team’s injured reserve list after clearing waivers.

He was signed by the Lions to a two-year, $990,000 contract after clearing waivers and was set to make a base salaries of $450,000 next season and $540,000 in 2017.

Thompson has yet to appear in a NFL regular season game, but has had stints on the Lions’ and Jaguars’ practice squads.
