Saints Sign RB/FB Austin Johnson

The Saints have signed RB/FB Austin Johnson to a contract on Wednesday, per Nick Underhill.

  • This is likely a future/reserve contract, which means Johnson should compete for a roster spot in the future.

Johnson, 24, originally signed on with the Ravens as an undrafted free agent out of Tennessee back in 2012. He later signed a future/reserve contract with the Saints in January of 2013, and has been on and off of their practice squad ever since.

This season, Johnson has appeared in 10 games and ran for nine yards on four carries (2.3 YPC) to go along with five receptions for 30 yards receiving and one total touchdown.

Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 33 fullback out of 36 qualifying players.
