Saints Sign Three Draft Picks

The New Orleans Saints announced the signings of fifth-round pick S Vinnie Sunseri, fifth-round pick OLB Ronald Powell and sixth-round pick OT Tavon Rooks.

  • All three players receive four-year contracts.

The Saints now have half of their draft class under contract a little over a week after the 2014 draft got underway.

Sunseri, 22, offers them some depth at safety, even though they have arguably the best tandem of safeties with Kenny Vaccaro and Jairus Byrd. With this in mind, Sunseri will have to earn his roster by excelling on special teams, which happens to be one of his areas of strength during his time at Alabama.

Sunseri totaled 105 tackles, four interceptions, two returned for touchdowns, 12 passes defensed, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries over the course of his college career.

Powell, 23, appeared in 36 games at Florida and totaled 84 tackles, 11 sacks, two passes defensed and one forced fumble.

Rooks, 24, made 23 starts at Kansas State and appeared in a total of 26 games during his college career while playing right tackle. The Saints could use some extra competition at offensive tackle, but he’ll obviously have to earn his roster spot during training camp.
