Saints Place DB Jamarca Sanford On I.R., Sign NT Lawrence Virgil

The New Orleans Saints signed NT Lawrence Virgil to a contract on Friday and placed DB Jamarca Sanford on injured reserve.

Sanford, 30, is a former seventh-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings. He spent just over five years with the team before he was placed injured reserve and later released with an injury settlement back in September of 2014.

He played briefly for the Redskins before signing on with the Saints during the 2014 season. New Orleans elected to bring him back on a one-year deal last year and re-signed him again this offseason.

In 2015, Sanford appeared in all 16 games and recorded 15 tackles, a forced fumble, an interception and a pass defense. He played a total of 105 snaps last season, according to Pro Football Focus.

Virgil, 25, wound up signing on with the Saints as an undrafted free agent out of back in 2014. He spent much of the 2014 season on the Saints’ practice before being promoted late in the year. However, he unfortunately spent the 2015 season on the injured reserve list.

In 2014, Virgil appeared in one game and recorded two tackles.
