Saints Signing C Max Unger To Three-Year Extension Worth Over $21M

Herbie Teope of the Times-Picayune reports that the Saints and C Max Unger have agreed to a three-year contract extension on Thursday.

  • According to Teope, Unger’s new contract will pay him an annual salary of just over $7 million.

Unger, 30, is a former second-round pick of the Seahawks back in 2009. After six year in Seattle, he was traded to the Saints in return for TE Jimmy Graham and a first-round pick that eventually became LB Stephone Anthony.

Unger was in the final year of his  five-year, $25.5 million contract that included $12 million guaranteed. He was set to make a base salary of $4.25 million for the 2016 season.

In 2015, Unger appeared in all 16 games for the Saints and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 11 center out of 39 qualifying players.
