Saints Sign OLB Alex Okafor To One-Year, $3M Deal

Rand Getlin reports that the Saints and free agent OLB Alex Okafor have agreed to terms on a contract.

  • According to Getlin, Okafor receives a one-year contract worth up to $3 million from the Saints.

The Saints brought in Okafor for a visit on Monday and last we heard he was still meeting with the team, which appeared to be a positive sign that a deal could be in place at some point in the near future.

Okafor was one of the best pass rushers still available in this year’s market.

Okafor, 26, is a former fourth-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2013. He played out the final year of his four-year, $2.634 million rookie contract that included a base salary of $675,000 for the 2016 season and is now testing the open market as an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career.

In 2016, Okafor appeared in 15 games for the Cardinals and recorded 13 tackles, 3.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and a recovery. Pro Football Focus has him down for playing 231 total snaps last year.

We had him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.
