Saints Signing Veteran OLB Matt Shaughnessy

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Saints are signing OLB Matt Shaughnessy to a contract.

Shaughnessy previously worked out for the Saints multiple times over the past few months, so he was clearly on their radar. However, he left both visits without an offer from the Saints.

Shaughnessy, 29, is a former third-round pick of the Raiders back in 2009. He spent four years in Oakland before signing on with the Cardinals as an unrestricted free agent in 2013.

However, the Cardinals elected to cut Shaughnessy loose at the start of the 2016 season, and he wound up sitting out the entire 2015 season.

In 2014, Shaughnessy was limited to appearing in just eight games for the Cardinals after he was placed on short-term injured reserve. He finished the year with 17 tackles.
