Saints Trying Out QB Matt Simms

Nick Underhill reports that free agent QB Matt Simms is among the players invited to participate in the Saints’ rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.

Simms, 28, originally signed on with the Jets as an undrafted out of Tennessee back in 2012. He spent just over three years with the Jets before he was waived and later claimed off of waivers by the Bills.

However, Simms was unfortunately among their final roster cuts at the start of the 2015 season. Simms later signed on to the Falcons’ practice squad and returned to Atlanta on a futures deal before he was waived last September.

The Falcons did, however, re-sign him to their practice squad.

In 2014, Simms was signed to the team’s practice squad and wound up appearing in one game, completing 3-of-8 pass attempts for 39 yards.
