Saints Trying Out Veteran DE/OLB Matt Shaughnessy

The New Orleans Saints are trying out veteran DE/OLB Matt Shaughnessy on Tuesday, according to Evan Woodbery.

• The Saints are also trying out OLB Royce LaFrance, LB Chris Weatherd and DT Lawrence Virgil.

Shaughnessy previously worked out for the Saints close to a month ago, but did not receive an offer from the team.

Shaughnessy, 29, is a former third-round pick of the Raiders back in 2009. He spent four years in Oakland before signing on with the Cardinals as an unrestricted free agent in 2013.

However, the Cardinals elected to cut Shaughnessy loose at the start of the 2016 season, and he wound up sitting out the entire 2015 season.

In 2014, Shaughnessy was limited to appearing in just eight games for the Cardinals after he was placed on short-term injured reserve. He finished the year with 17 tackles.
