Saints Using Original-Round Tender On RFA WR Willie Snead

Adam Schefter reports that the Saints are planning to use an original-round tender on restricted free agent WR Willie Snead.

The original-round tender gives the Saints the right of first refusal for any offer he signs with another team in free agency. However, the Saints would not receive any draft pick compensation if they were to decline to match the offer, considering that Snead was an undrafted free agent.

Snead, 25, originally signed on with the Browns as an undrafted free agent back in 2014. He lasted just a few months in Cleveland before signing on to the Panthers’ practice squad during his rookie season. Snead eventually joined the Saints towards the end of the year and returned to the team on a future/reserve contract.

The Saints re-signed Snead to a one-year exclusive rights deal last year.

In 2017, Snead appeared in 11 games for the Saints and caught eight passes for 92 yards receiving and no touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 76 receiver out of 116 qualifying players.
