Saints Waive DB Alden Darby From I.R. With Settlement

The New Orleans Saints officially waived DB Alden Darby from injured reserve with a settlement on Saturday.

  • The Saints also waived DE D.J. Pettway with an injury designation.

Darby, 24, originally signed on with the Chargers as an undrafted free agent out of Arizona State back in 2014. He lasted just a few months before he was among the Chargers roster cuts at the start of the season.

The Steelers later signed him to a future/reserve contract in January of last year, but he was once again unable to secure a spot on the 53-man roster. Darby signed on to the Saints’ practice squad at the start of the 2015 season and returned to New Orleans on a future/reserve contract.

The Saints waived him with an injury designation earlier in the week. He wound up clearing waivers and reverting to the team’s injury reserve list.

During his four-year college career, Darby recorded 217 tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles, three recoveries, six interceptions with one being returned for a touchdown and 12 pass defenses.
