Saints Waive Fourth-Round Pick LB Khairi Fortt

Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Saints have waived 2014 fourth-round pick LB Khairi Fortt on Monday.

New Orleans placed Fortt on injured reserve with the designation to return a few days before the start of the regular season. This move was made to clear a roster spot for veteran WR Robert Meachem.

It’s surprising to see the Saints part ways with the a fourth-round selection, especially given that they used their short-term injured reserve designation on him.

Fortt, 22, played two years for Penn State before transferring to California last year. In 2013, he started all nine games for California totaled 64 tackles, 0.5 sack and 3.5 tackles for a loss.
