Saints Waive QB Joe Callahan

Mike Garafolo NFL Media reports that the Saints are waiving QB Joe Callahan on Saturday, as they need the roster spot for another position.

  • Garafolo mentions that New Orleans still wants to re-sign Callahan to their practice squad if he clears waivers, but they may also have competition from the Packers.

Callahan, 23, wound up signing a three-year, $1.62 million contract with the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Wesley College back in May. He was able to make the 53-man roster as the team’s No. 3 quarterback coming out of the preseason.

The Packers, unfortunately, waived him in recent weeks to free up a roster spot. The Saints then claimed him off waivers just one day after being cut.

He has yet to appear during an NFL game.

During the preseason, Callahan threw for 499 yards while completing 61.4 percent of his passes to go along with three touchdowns and no interceptions.
