Saints Workout RBs Andre Brown, Tim Hightower & Mikel Leshoure

Howard Balzer reports that the New Orleans Saints brought in a number of players for tryouts this week including running backs: Andre Brown, Tim Hightower, Brian Leonard, and Mikel Leshoure.

Brown, 27, had his eight-game suspension lifted last week, so this is the first reported interest in him since he was reinstated.

The Texans signed Brown to a one-year, $645,000 contract several months ago. However, he lasted until August before he was released.

He spent one season with the Broncos, before joining the New York Giants in 2012. Last year, he ran for 492 yards on 139 carries (3.5 YPC) and scored three touchdowns over the course of eight games.

Leshoure, 24, was released by the Lions in training camp, after the team elected to keep RB Theo Riddick ahead of him. He has had workouts for the Broncos, Colts and Bears since being released, but has yet to receive a contract offer.

The former second-round pick has 217 career carries for 817 yards.

Pro Football Talk, citing a league source, is reporting that the Saints have signed S Jamarca Sanford to a contract on Tuesday.

Sanford, 29, officially signed with the Saints, according to the NFL transactions release.

Sanford, a former seventh-round pick of the Vikings, spent just over five years in Minnesota before he was placed injured reserve and later released with an injury settlement back in early September.

Washington signed him to a contract a few weeks later, but he recorded just two tackles over the course of three games.

Last year, Sanford appeared in 13 games and recorded 57 tackles, two forced fumbles, one recovery and a single pass defensed.
