San Antonio Officials Meeting With Raiders About Relocating

Tom Orsborn of SanAntonio.com reports that former San Antonio mayor Henry Cisneros is leading a group of governmental and civic leaders that are headed to the Bay Area to meet with Raiders officials Friday.

According to Orsborn, they are discussing the possibility of moving the Raiders franchise to the Alamo City, in the event that a new stadium deal with the city of Oakland should fall through.

Cisneros reportedly believes the possibility of the Raiders moving to San Antonio is a “very clear 50-50 proposition.”

However, Jason Cole f the Bleacher Report has spoken to three sources that mentioned there’s “no way Raiders move to San Antonio.

  • Cole mentions that Raiders owner Mark Davis is “being polite” while using his leverage.
  • The Raiders options come down to Los Angeles or Oakland, according to Cole.

It’s been several months since we last heard about the possibility of the Raiders relocating to San Antonio. Davis has previously met with city officials, but he’s also downplayed the meetings.

Both Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Texans owner Bob McNair have mentioned how important San Antonio is to their franchises, so it seems unlikely that they would allow such a move without some serious protesting.

For an NFL franchise to relocate, they would need the approval of 24 of the league’s 32 owners and given the fact that the NFL is trying to place a team in Los Angeles, it’s just hard to imagine them approving a move like this until every avenue has been explored in California.
