San Francisco Not Interested In Trading Holdout G Alex Boone

 

According to Matt Maiocco, teams have inquired about the availability of holdout G Alex Boone, but the 49ers are not interested in trading him.

• Additionally, Jason Cole reports that the 49ers would want a first or second round pick in exchange for Boone.
• Cole adds that the 49ers are not interested in re-negotiating Boone’s deal.

San Francisco has reportedly offered Boone an extension, which would add a few years to his current deal, rather than a new contract.

It seems that the sides have hit an impasse, though it does not appear that San Francisco is interested in moving Boone.  Their price tag is very high – essentially a second round pick – for a veteran guard seeking a big extension.

Boone does have some leverage, as his replacement – G Joe Looney – has promise, but still needs work.

Both sides are likely hoping that as the season nears, positions become less entrenched.

Boone, 27, is entering the fourth year of a five-year deal and is slated to make $2 million for the 2014 season. He currently counts $2.6 million against the cap next season.

Boone moved from tackle to guard two seasons ago and it paid off in a big way for the 49ers, as he graded out as the No. 3 guard in the 2012 season according to Pro Football Focus. However, he regressed some last year when he was rated as the No. 40 guard out of 81 qualifying players.
